Wooloowin State Infants Home, Bisbane
« on: Tuesday 21 April 09 06:48 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know if the Wooloowin State Infants Home is still running and if there is anyway of obtaining any records from 1917.  Archives have told me that they do not like to look up things for genealogy, does anybody know if there is a way around this,  thanks

Hi,

There could be a 75-100 year embargo on information.  But it may be worth your while to write to the Department of Child Safety  (see Brisbane White Pages of the Telephone book) or go in person to your nearest office to make inquiries and explain the nature of your request.  If the Archives hold the records, you may have to have permission from the Department to access the records.  Another avenue is through Freedom Of Information.  Regards, Gazania

Thanks Gaznia, I tried the Archives they said that I would have to try Dept of Childrens Safety and they didn't like looking those sorts of things up for famiy research, might try the FOI, thanks heaps.
