Skoosh/Forfarian, I have a great many McLeod/MacLeods in my family tree from Easter Ross and thought that was a lot until I came across Shetland's family trees, which has about 350,000 people.  I am very familiar with search.  I thought I was being specific by addressing my question to Ron/Sue but should have provided more detail.  I suspect my ancestors migrated from the west coast, Coigach and Assynt, to Easter Ross but my own 3g-grandfather Alexander McLeod was born in Nigg, Ross & Cromarty in 1772.  I have been tracking many McLeod/MacLeod families from Coigach and Assynt to points east (Loth, Helmsdale, Dornoch, Rosskeen, Kincardine, Logie-Easter, Kilmuir-Easter, Tarbat, Tain, Fearn, Nigg, etc.)  in the hopes of finding connections to my own family as Nigg records don't contain McLeods before 1800.

@ Sildeag, Geanies House, Fearn was the home of Macleod of Assynt so possibly some of their tenants followed their example?

Skoosh.

Sue, have you uncovered anything more about Mary McLeod, Hugh McLeod's spouse.  Achiltibuie 41-21.

I have Hugh McLeod (1793 Achiltibuie -1867 Rosskeen) and Mary McLeod (nee McLeod) (1803 - ?)

Hugh's parents: Donald McLeod, farmer, and Margaret McLean are also devoid of anything.

This family in 1851 is at Tain, Hugh noted as a 56 year old mason, Mary as 43, with five children, all born at Lochbroom; Kenneth 21, Margaret 20, Flora 15, Murdoch 10, John 7.

Hugh's family group:

Kenneth 1829-1905
Margaret 1830-
Christian 1831- (Christina)
Donald 1831- missing died young?
Flora 1835-
Roderick 1836- missing died young?
Murdoch 1841-
John 1844-

In 1871 Castle Craig, Nigg, ROC: Mary 64, Christina 30, Flora 29, John 22, Margaret gr-daughter 10, Catherine mackenzie gr-daughter 5 and Hugh McKenzie 3.

In 1881 Mary MacLeod 74 mother-in-law is with Christina Graham.  Estate of Nigg.  Different Mary or she remarried Norman MacLeod.
In 1891 Mary MacLeod 82 mother-in-law is with Christina Graham.  Farm of Nigg.  Different Mary.

There is a Mary MacLeod death in Nigg, ROC (1821-1893) but the birth date is way off what I expected and seems to be someone else.

Christina MacLeod married Jaspard Graham, grave digger, in Nigg ROC in 1876.  Previously, Jasper was married to Isabella McLeod in Nigg ROC in 1855.

I believe this is the wrong Mary.  More likely is
1881 census Shandwick Farm Servts, Logie Easter, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
John MacLeod 34, Mary MacLeod widow 75, Christina 42, Flora 40, Catherine McKenzie niece 15, and Hugh McKenzie nephew 13.  All these MacLeods were born in Coigach.
Mary's death might be in Tain poorhouse but I am not sure.

I've found nothing more on Mary McLeod or her parents.  And I haven't found anything on the others, except Kenneth who as you know appeared in the 1881 census for Nigg, ROC.  Have you?
