Hi allaust,

Welcome to rootschat!

I willl be visiting the Qld State Archives in the next day or two and will be happy to check the fiche for the Sabine marriage. However marriages on fiche only go to 1939 so your marriage may not be there.

Can you confirm that you are looking for a marriage between 1930 and 1960? That is an awfully big date range  :-\ ....

hi, would be appreciated . All the info I have is Herbert Leslies' first wife Lillian Naomi (they are my grandparents) died 1934.
In 1955 I have a letter signed Dad and syl. He died 1961 and she is mentioned in the will.

No other info ... would love to know anything about her. Thanks. I know it's a needle in the haystack situation.

Here is the enlistment of a possible daughter in ww2

SABINE, IVY NAOMI

information freely available

http://www.naa.gov.au/index.aspx

She was living in South Brisbane aged 23.
Do you think her father was also there and perhaps she was  living with him?

hey thanks sue,

Yes have this one, she is my aunt. There was another sister and my dad. I have all Sabine war records. It's just Sylvia who is the mystery.
Obviously "the wicked stepmother", but who was she ? where did she come from? where did she go?

She will turn up , someone must know.

Julie

Hi,Julie

Obviously "the wicked stepmother",

The war service papers for [I assume ] your father digitised on NAA show that by 1942, he did not know his father's address, although, at this stage names him as next of kin, while nominating the other sister Yvonne as person to be advised of injury etc.

So it appears there was perhaps some ill-feeling, as you say.

on  the  1936  Electoral  Roll
Herbert Leslie Sabine at 126  Elizabeth Street, Brisbane manufacturing optician
but no one else by  the same name at  the address .  So  might indicate not remarried by  that date.

Do  you  know  where Herbert L  Sabine is  buried,  perhaps if Sylvia is also buried with  him  her death date  may  be  of some help as well.

allaust,

I'm afraid I had no luck at the Archives finding the marriage of Herbert and Sylvia between 1925 and 1939.  :-\

There were other Sabine 'events' but no Herbert. They either married after 1939, or perhaps they didn't even marry?
