1861 Census occupation help please...?

Hi all,

Trying to figure out what this occupation for John Hartill (b 1843, Bilston, Staffordshire, England), is in 1861 please - see attached file.

It sort of looks like unbounded pudler or underhand pudler - but that cannot be right

The ref is:  RG9/2007 Folio 35 Page 10

Ideas anyone?

I think its:

underhand pudler - pudler is something to do with being a foundryman.

That would make sense (if it is something to do with foundry work), his brother was an iron worker...

Just sounds really weird!

Pudler seems to have been a widely used alternative spelling of puddler

Several of my ancestors were puddlers in the iron and steel industry. Not sure about the underhand bit though.
