Might be anidea to look at the ffestiniog parish registers for John and Mary's marriage. And for Mary's birth. They are at Dollgellau archives.

I believe they will look up things for you, but will charge you.  I guess that if you have to do some deep digging that takes up time it would be better to make the trip yourself.
