Tottenham old street name

Does anyone know what happened to Wingmore Road, Tottenham? Has it be renamed or buried under a new development ?
Have found relatives living there on the 1901 & 1911 census.

Hi,

I have a pre-decimal copy (5/- ) of A-Z and Wingmore Rd is shown;  not far from White Hart Lane station and Tottenham Cemetery.

It's gone from my more modern copy; it was between Beaufoy Rd and Tenterden Rd.

Nanny Jan, Lucky you... did you buy that second hand or inherit it?

I read the biography of the woman who put the A-Z together- amazing stuff..

Hi,

My pre-decimal A-Z came from Freecycle!  I have just bought a facsimile of the first A-Z; it's very useful because it has a list of streets that had their names changed.  Also has a list of parking places!  ;D

Comparing an on-line street map of the area from 1940, it is clear that the present Tebworth Road used to be the southern half of Wingmore Road.  The original Wingmore Road used to continue northwards beyond the present dead end of Tebworth, past what is now Gretton Road and it then went straight on following, more or less, the course of the present passageway that runs between the houses as far as Beaufroy Road. The maps are made available by Maps-of-London.com with permission of Collins Batholomew.  WW2 bombing maps show that during the Blitz, four bombs fell in this small area.  This may explain why there has been so much rearrangement of the street layout.  I have not been able to find out whether and V1s or V2s fell here later in the war.
