Turkenham Middlesex
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 15:03 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have an ancestor who is on the 1851 census as being from Turkenham, Middlesex, I can find no information about this place. I assume it was the Holborn area.

Does anyone know anything about this place.

Regards
Carolyn

Hi
Thanks to you both.
The name is Richard Winterburn.
The census is 1861  Hampshire, Portsea, Kingston District 3 page 22.
They actually transcribed it as Turekenham.
I know that he was born in the Holborn area.

Kind regards
Carolyn

I would definitely say that says Twickenham Middlesex.

Are you sure you have the right man.........Twickenham is nowhere near Holborn  ;D

Do you have him on other censuses or do you need us to help you?

Hi Carol,

No I saw that one. My Richard's wife's name was Harriet, also from Middlesex (Somers Town).
Richard was a coastguard working around Hampshire. On the 1851 he is at a coastguard station, Needs Oar, in Hampshire. His wife died 1868 in Southampton. (I have the certificate).
I have seen his birth record and it says Holborn.
I have seen Turkenham mentioned before on Nat. Archives. If you put up Turkenham Middlesex on Google it will come up.
