Restoration request
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 15:46 BST (UK) »
Hi, first time here, someone told me there are some very kind people on this site who will look at touch-up/restoration of pictures free of charge? Attached is the only copy of an excellent photo showing four generations of my ancestors, If anyone can improve it, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

I am sorry but my emails are no longer working.

Williams (Kent), Crossfield (Sussex), Hawes (Sussex), Butler (Cambridgeshire).
Rae (Inverness), Burn(Durham), Walker (Durham).

It's a great picture, so I'm very pleased with the results. The Crossfields are my 'favourite' area of research in my tree, it's actually my paternal grandmother's maiden name. They are a fascinating bunch.

Old William John, the oldest one in the picture served on HMS Odin in the south China sea during the second Opium Wars. I've actually got a copy of the 1861 census record of him there, on board the vessel at the time. Meanwhile two of his brothers are on the census as porters at the famous Claridges Hotel in London on the same night.

The youngest William, the baby in the picture served along with seven brothers in the military during WWII, amazingly all seven brothers saw frontline service (one of them in the S.A.S) and all of them survived the war virtually unscathed! Kind of a reverse 'Saving Private Ryan'!

Hi Stevie,

How lovely to have all that information about them and to be able to quote it so readily.

Not many people can do that through 4 generations.  Nice to know that they survived the war as well

Thank you for sharing it with us, it is fascinating.
