Ellice STACEY - NSW
« on: Thursday 30 April 09 10:02 BST (UK) »
Hi All.
I'm having a little trouble proving or disproving this connection. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My Great Uncle John William George Stacey married an Alice R Moss at Ashfield in 1930. NSW BDM.
No-one in my family remembers this lady.
Jack and Alice obviously came to a parting of the ways fairly early in the peace.
They did however have a son.
Jack's death notice lists the son as Mr Stacey of Kingsford. (Great help).

I could find no death for an Alice R. Stacey anywhere- checked divorce records nothing.
In talking to a distant elderly relative earlier this week she asked the questions.
Did they live in Mosman? Did she spell her Alice differently?
In checking records I found an Ellice Ruby Stacey having died at Mosman on 28th May 1974.
Death notice listed no son or husband only one sister and a niece and nephew. None of whom are mine.

I checked cemetery listings for the northern suburbs cemeteries that are online. No joy.
I could purchase the death cert- but if she's not mine, I'm reticent to outlay the money.
I'm currently stumped. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
Wren

Sometimes  a  headstone can be revealing.  If  you  know where  your Great uncle is  buried  I  would  check if there is a headstone in  place.  It might read  Loving father of .......  etc.

Have  you  checked  the white pages to  see if there is a Stacey  listed in Kingswood?

The  son  might have been from a previous marriage or liason.

kind thoughts Jenn

Hi Jenn.
Thanks for your help.
Jack was cremated at the eastern suburbs crematorium- no joy.
I also found an alice Rose there and thought I'd hit the jackpot. Alas her death notice proved that she wasn't mine.
Yes, I checked the white pages for Stacey at Kingswood- again nothing. Not knowing the Christian name doesn't help.
No-one remembering her doesn't help either.
Although my great uncle didn't die until 1972. I never met him and have no photos. all a bit of a mystery really.

I need to go to the state library and check the electoral rolls, and see if that givers me anything, but in the meantime   I wondered if there was anything else I might try.

Regards
Wren

Depends  on  what  you are able  to do.  Aa  copy  of his death certificate  should  list  his children  by  name.

If you use a transcription agent  it is a lot quicker and saves you around $10.00

Hi Jenn
You're right, it should- and I think thats the avenue I'll have to take. Although I'm tending to think that because his death notice lists his son as Mr Stacey. He may not have been the informant. It seems that his cousin who had taken him in has written the death notice as she lists herself on the notice but none of his nephew or nieces. All very strange.
My Mum and her cousin who are still live have no recollection of his wife or any children.
I guess I'll not know until I purchase.
Thanks
Wren.

Hello,

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate? It should name her parents and this could behelpful if she remarried. There seems to be no birth registration for an Alice R Moss in NSW.

There a three deaths in NSW records for sons of John George William Stacey 1936,1977 & 1978 mother's name is Julia.

Have you checked the divorce lists for NSW

Robyn
