GURNEYs of Redbourn
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 23:08 BST (UK) »
Help please?!!  Does anyone know Gurney's of Redbourn.  My grandfather is Frank Charles gurney born 1908.  Father was Charles Gurney.  Frank married Audrey May (Perfitt or Martin-Lewis.)  I have no family members to help me with this part of my family tree.

Thanks

Hi Selena

Are you looking for help in tracing the family backwards via census entries or are you looking for living descendants

The only Charles Gurney on the 1901 census in Redbourne was aged 49 and his wife was 61 so too old to give birth in 1908

Do you have the 1953 marriage cert?  What was father Charles occupation

Hi guys,
My error.  I should have been more awake when posting!!

Frank Gurney born 1908 -Redbourn.
Father is Alfred Gurney born 1880 wood cutter.  Living North Common, redbourn
married to Edith in 1905
Duaghter - Annie 1905
Son Frank 1908
Son Charlie - 1910
Also living there is Emma - Alfred's mother aged 79.  This is from 1911 census.

I think I have managed to  go back to 1828 - Abel Gurney.

i am keen to make some contact so i can find out a bit more about my father's real mother who married Frank in 1953.  Am about to order the marriage cert.  Do I do this from St Albans?

Thanks you for your replies.

Hi Selena

You can order direct from St Albans or from HALS or from the GRO.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

https://www.hertsdirect.org/actweb/registrars/marriagecert_orderform.cfm?

Ordering direct from the GRO is probably easiest and  cheapest at  £7.  HALS charge £10.

Rick :)

Hi,

I now have the marriage cert for Frank Charles Gurney and Audrey may perfitt for 1953.

Audrey's father was Arthur Perfitt postman (deceased by 1953).  this was Audrey's second marriage.  She was Audrey Martin-Lewis.
I have searched on freebmd with no records.

I am new to this so am struggling a bit and would appreciate any leads/advice etc.

Many thanks
Selena
