I have received a death cert of a relative, who died in 1936 and the occupation states  :

Fancy Goods Maker

What would this be ?

online definition says...

"small items sold as gifts or novelties"

..... would be knick knacks, cheap holiday souvenirs, etc. etc.

Martha Ann Keily - Limerick/Woolwich mid 1800s
Mary Jane Hawkins - Bridgwater c.1835
George Gulson - Warmfield or Mansfield 1790s

Glitter - Not necessarily cheap holiday souvenirs.

When I was a child a Fancy Goods shop would sell items, such as small vases, cake plates, ornaments, small leather items, the kind of thing you would buy someone as a gift.  Doesn't really help you with what your relative made.  Depending where he lived, it could have been pottery, glassware or leatherware.

Hi thanks for replies.
He lived in Clerkenwell, London and then Blackpool area, so it probarly was gifts or novelties !!! :D
