COMPLETED - Thanks - Occupation - help required
« on: Wednesday 06 May 09 10:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Painter above, butcher below - but what is the occupation (of a 14 yr old female) in the centre?

I'm unable to make sense of it :-[

But the "t" isn't crossed and in other words it is. Also it does look like "ory" not "ing" on the end of the first word.

Handwriting is pretty bad and the odd t isn't crossed, a few pages further on there is a Printers boy, Printer compositor, Printers book foulder - they look very similar

Ok. I'll go back to my original thinking then. :)

No, it's not conclusive, just my opinion, was hoping to find another 'P---- office hand' to compare it.

Have looked through a few more pages, there seem to be several printing related occupations, a faclory hand (uncrossed t)

so that's my best guess

I haven't looked at the whole page or any others around it but given the number of other printing related occupations and that we both instinctively said the same thing, it seems pretty likely.

Hi

Thank you both very much!

I had initially read it as 'something' office hand, with the first word probably ending "ory" - unable to then make a sensible first word I convinced myself that it wasn't...

I have just spent a few more minutes looking over the whole page and will go along with "Printing Office Hand".
