Hi IgorStrav,

Glad your computer nasties are now hopefully behind you.  Good also that the census occupation info. seems to back up the family story - its a bit tough that it looks like the poor guy was parted from his money by the new wife.  It's satisfying (usually  :-\) when a family tale can be supported by facts, as so often in my own family, interesting family snippets are proved to be somewhat embellished  ::)

I absolutely agree with what maggie says about needing to verify the handed down stories- embelished or sanitised is how I've found them to be in some cases.
I try to verify the info that comes in the tales by cross checking, and only then writing the stuff in as kosher.
