Lookig for burial place of my gread grandmother
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 12:14 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help please. I am looking for the burial place of my great grandmother Jessie Hay. She was born 7th October 1879 in Lossiemouth Morayshire. She married a Thomas Stewart Hay on the 7th June 1907. She died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on 16th March 1931. I believe her illness was so severe she was sent to Edinburgh for treatment but died there. I just cannot find details of her burial place. Wondered if anyone can suggest the best places to look for information. Thanks

Katie,

There are some details - nothing about a headstone unfortunately - about Jessie on the Moray Heritage Centre website, specifically their Libindx System. http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

Her parents were James Whyte Cooper and Annie Munro - although her maiden name was White - and (at some point) she lived at Jointurelands, Calcots, Elgin.  Thomas Hay was a farm labourer.

The Reference is NM270180

Hope this is of some use.

Thanks Stuart. Yes that is my grandmother. I have found the details on that site but I am having problems finding out where she was buried. The people at the heritage centre are very good so maybe i will have to go down there one aftertnoon and see what i can dig up. I would really love to know where she is buried though.

I had a look at the Moray Burial Ground Research Group website - nothing about Jessie (that I could find!)

Good luck,

Stuart

Her parents were James Whyte Cooper and Annie Munro - although her maiden name was White

Can you be sure that Cooper isn't his occupation rather than his surname?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
