Hendrecafn road, Penygraig
« on: Thursday 07 May 09 17:41 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this area and its history.
I have just discovered that in 1926 my Grandmother lived there at the time of her death.
Electoral info shows the residence as being joint with the next door residence and having 12 inhabitants; however nothing is showing it as a lodging house.
I am also confused as no where on the electoral info for 1926, the year before, or the year after as having her residing there or her husband, even though they were both there and she was over 30.
Also I believe at the rear to the property there was a chapel; now being changed into flats, however it doesn't state the name of the chapel and I am wondering if any one knows which chapel this was??

I have googled, and spoke to Treorchy Library but they can find no info; so am hoping someone who knows the area or has grown up there can shine some light on this for me please.

Thanks

Colleen

shouldn't the name of the road be Hendrecefn (not cafn)????

if so - here is a link to a photo of the road in 1922

Hi Suz,

Thanks for the link...as for the spelling I am unsure.
On grans death internment and the electoral role it is Hendrecafn and web-searches state the same, although on some links it is Hendrecefn so I think I will have to check on that.

Kind Regards

Hi  Colleen,

Sorry I don't know how to shorten the link, but this  picture of Hendrecefn is from a previous thread of mine.

Hi 100445,

Welcome to RootsChat,

I was sent a photograph of the Children's Playground by another kind RCer when re-searching my 3xgrandparents.....he built three of these houses.
Sorry I don't know the names of the road that runs off it,being on a corner plot we are probably talking of the same place.
I sent for the Deeds but the road was unnamed when the ground was purchased.

She believed this playground had been built on my 3xgrandparents previous home, 49 Hendrecafn Road, (apologies, I spelt it incorrectly in a previous post). On a death certificate, the spelling is Hendrecaven and the number of the house where he died 47.  The painting on the Penygraig Link spells it as Hendrecafn.... so I would think that is correct.

From memory I was told that Tylacelyn Road was extended and became Hendrecafen. If this is correct, then a view (Number 4729) of the Chapel at Tylacelyn road  can be seen on the Link  mentioned by  Suz
