Robert Smith born in Haddington in 1823, died 24.10.1898 in St. Kitts.  His first wife? is unknown - daughter Kate born c1843.  He married Sara Eliza Penniston in Barbados in 1860.  She was born there c1834 and died in St Kitts 5.5.1901.  Robert Smith's gravestone can still be seen in St Kitts it was erected by his children.   
Children- Annie Eliza Smith born 2 Nov. 1863 died 1942   baptised 29 Nov 1863 at St George's, Basseterre, St Kitts.
Robert Neil Smith b1868-1938
John James Finlayson Smith b15 Jan 1871- 21 Jan 1931
Janet Margaret Smith born 15 Mar. 1874

Robert Smith's sister Margaret born 1813 married Joseph Falconer.  One of their sons, Andrew, went out to St Kitts to join his uncle.  Andrew was a rep. of some kind and spent a great deal of time in USA.
There are lots of descendants living in St Kitts

Hi Brian  Re Robert's children- Annie Eliza Smith married Albert (Bassie) Evelyn  in St Kitts on 20Feb 1883
Robert married Alice Evelyn 15 Nov 1896
John Smith married Gertrude Field
Janet married Arnold Charles Gouda 9 April 1898, Anglican Church, St George, Basseterre, St Kitts.

Hi Brian,  I have just joined this site so I do not know how to contact you.  My husband's great grandfather (John) was Robert Smiths brother. It was known in the family that Robert had gone to St Kitts, but no more than that. I made contact with someone on GRU who supplied me with lots of info regarding  Robert and his family on St Kitts.
I also contacted you regarding re Smith and Finlayson of Haddington.
