Castle Byres Cottage is on the 1901 census as the last entry in Prudhoe Castle township. One of the surveys of the castle mentions two byres with a ruined kiln to the north of the castle. It must have been on the flat haugh land immediately below the castle hill. Nothing that old seems to have survived the expansion of the industrial site except perhaps the Adam and Eve pub at the railway crossing. ICI and their chemical industry precursors used the 17th century house inside the castle for offices until they closed their operation in Prudhoe.

Thanks, Peter.  Too bad there is nothing left, but I now know the general area.  It looks like I need to check my American spelling at the door -- "er" vs "re" at the end of words.  I shall correct my records to "Byres."
