Hopefully it would
Well worth a try, seeing as the death is the only definite thing known about the William, you need to get as much info from that as is available.
Not straw clutching at all - that one is a wise move!

No more straw clutching lol

I will order certificates and take it from there. I ordered her eldest sons from coventry register office thinking it would be faster, bad mistake. I wen to pick it up today and they said it could be 3 or 4 weeks!  :o will get the rest on line.

I read some thing today that could help in a book called Tracing your family history by Anthony Adolph it said

"until 1929 provided they had parental consent, boys could marry at 14 and girls at 12, and after 1929 the age was 16. Marriages between such young persons were rare but they did happen and many marriage searches fail simply because people do not search back before their ancestors were 18"

I never knew this and have allways looked for marriages from the age of 18. I doubt it will be my answer but its worth a look while I wait for certificates.

And don't worry liz I would never just place a name on my tree without prof of a relationship. If I cant find out anymore about Louisa Wagstaff then she will have to remain parentless.

Thanks for all your help. I will update when certificates arrive.
Have a nice weekend

Had a look and just comes up with the same Joseph Appleby match but what is interesting is the birth of Ada Appleby 3rd Q 1884 Birmingham this birth date fits with census returns

Now if my Louisa did marry Joseph Appleby this could be the birth of her 1st daughter. I have located all the births of the other children but never Ada so Husselby could be a possible mistake on Mays birth certificate

now you're clutching at my straw too!!!!

I thought it was maybe worth thinking of
(I know Carol poohpoohed it .........!!!!!!)

See if there are any clues on the death cert of the William buried there, and on the birth cert of John.

Time for a bit of an update  ;D

I have not worked on my Wagstaff/Husselby/Hodgkins line for a while. I have been building on my Olorenshaw links with a distant cousin that I met on Ancestry.

This weekend is Coventry's heritage weekend. All of the city's medieval buildings get opened up for public viewing. In the Herbert Art Gallery we have all of the Coventry family history records. I went for a brows and within the building was members of the Coventry Family History Society selling all of their books and Cd's.

They have updated their CD for the London Road Burials and it now go's up to 1937 the previous edition went up to 1900. Imagine my delight I now have another 37 years worth of transcriptions to play with  ;D

Now for the good bit. I know from the 1911 census John Thomas Wagstaff was alive, by 1918 when his Daughter May married he was listed as Deceased on her marriage certificate. So he died at some point between 1911 and 1918. A search of free BMD between those dates gives me only 2 in war wickshire. One is 27 and the other is 56. This is my John.

Wagstaff John T 56 Coventry 6d 820 2nd Quarter 1915

I purchased the London Rd Burials CD and put Johns name in this is what it gave me

Grave 15 Square 226
18/05/1915 Wagstaff John Thomas 56 Workhouse Infirmary  (other address New St)

21/03/1934 Appleby Emily Louisa 78 Gulson Road Hospital (other address 4, Ct 12 Cox street) :o

Cox St is the address May gave when she married in 1918
Liz you was correct  ;D my Louisa did indeed marry Joseph Appleby and Ada was a child of that marriage. She lied on census returns and her children's birth certificates claiming to be the Wife of John when they never even married.
I now need to try and find out what happened to Joseph Appleby

Thanks for all the time you guys have put in for me  ;D I will update if I find any more

I would be very interested in any information on Arthur Warstaff as this information on these posts matches my research.
