« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 12:25 BST (UK) »
Help I have a Lowdie RULE on my tree I have taken the baptism from the Family Search P002071      1558 - 1580 which I thought was an extraction of the Camborne register and therefor Correct  ???
LOWDIE RULE  male father Jo.  no mother given

Now another chatter has queried this as they have a marriage for said lowdie but SHE was the bride :o of JOHN TEMBEY   07 JUL 1666      Camborne
The marriage appears on the family search site several times but only as submitted entries

Can any one be kind enough to check the registers for us please.

Hello Trees

Have you seen this site?

http://www.rootschat.com/links/06a1/

This indicates that Lowdie was a twin.  I found the link via the Cornwall OPC site

the transcription here
http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/a_d/camborne.php

says twin children of John Rule. If they were both boys, it might say twin sons.

I wouldn't put too much trust in the IGI decision on gender. The baptism for the child I'm pretty sure is my gggrandmother says son with no first name on the IGI batch. The original register says child, not son, so looks like guesswork -  correct father & year for my relative.

Wonder if Lowdie is a version of Loveday? Just checked my dictionary of first names Loveday also' found as Lowdy'.

 ;)

sorry Barbara you posted while I was typing but I'll go ahead for Loveday theory

Possibly if you find a marriage for Lowdrie that will help determine the gender

Hi there,

I managed to check the transcripts of the Registers today.  The entry reads:

Rule, Robert and Lowdie, twin children of Jo.  11 March 1634

Not much help in itself as to whether Lowdie is a girl or a boy.  However, I too think that if both children were girls or both were boys, then the register would probably have said "twin daughters of" or "twin sons of".  I also checked the transcripts for the marriage you have already come across and this reads:

Timbe, John and Lowdy Rule   7 July 1666

We then have a Lovdey Tembey buried on 28 December 1704 at Camborne.  (I could not find a Lowdie/Lowdy Rule buried in Camborne at any time.)

I would say that Lowdie/Lowdy and Lovdey are one and the same person, and that she was a girl.  I think Osprey is right about the Loveday theory.  :)

Hope this helps a bit.
