Hi satch2804,

I didn't hear anything in response to my email to the Pewter Society, and must confess I have not followed up the reference book recommended, so can't add anything to what is already in this thread.

As to date, I think the crown with WR beneath is pretty clear evidence that it was made in the reign of William IV, i.e. between 1830 and 1837.

My mug holds a pint, but is not marked to indicate that fact.

Hi Roger & Satch,

Roger's pot is almost certainly a beer mug as these usualy just had the excise mark not the actual volume stamped on them.  The fact that Satch's has QUART stamped on it suggests that it was a measure rather than a drinking mug.  All sorts of strange things were sold by volume including some types of seed and shellfish as well as a lot of liquids other than beer & cider.
