Help or Ideas needed
« on: Wednesday 13 May 09 19:41 BST (UK) »
Hi newbee here and i would like to start in saying hello to everyone. (( WAVES )) :)

right my delemer.

i am at the moment doing my family tree on my fathers side and now its time to trace his mother. thing is my father was born in ---- and his mother took off and left him with his father. My farther was aprox 15 at the time. he refused to talk about his mother and until he passed away in 1998 we us children didn't even know our grandmothers name.

looking at his birth cert it says mothers name Annie Elizabeth Humphreys/ Formally Jennings. i have traced her marrage to William Jennings in 1926 ( before she met my grand father ) she had to 2 children to William Jennings. ---- and ---- born ---- ( Twins ) as i said she split up with William and then met my grandfarther and then my farther was born in ----.

i just cant even seem to trace a death for her. last thing i know she had moved down south somewhere. i am on ancestry's and got no joy there. my grandfather and grandmother never married.

just seem to be stuck in a rut and no where to look.

Pamela

Hi Pamela,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

A copy of the marriage certificate for William Jennings and Annie should show the name and occupation of Annie's father.  That information can be used to look for her in the census records.

You can use the age given by Annie on the certificate to help look for her birth and death records;  however ladies are sometimes a bit flexible with their ages!

Just a thought.... Did Annie have any siblings? If you look at the 1911 census this might tell you - maybe she went to live near to them?

I suppose it is just about conceivable that she might still be alive ??  In her 90's, if I've done the arithmetic right !

There is a Lilian M Jennings marrying in 1951 - but its a real long shot if you know little about the family

Hi Pamela,

Do you know what happened to William Jennings? If you found his death certificate you might find the informants name or address of interest - should it be one of their children or grandchildren it could give you a lead.

Electoral lists or telephone directories are another possibility if you know which areas to search
