Bushell & White marriage in Grosvenor South Africa
« on: Thursday 14 May 09 02:12 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find information about John Bushell and Caroline Mary White who married 1875 in Grosvenor. They had 4 children Eliza Jane b1881 (thought to have been born during the Boer War in South Africa).Edward Harry b1876. Stephen Willy b1883. Emily b1878. Any help would be appreciated.  :-*

Hello lollyoz

Have you more details on where Grosvenor is in South Africa?    ???

Which province it was in at the time?    8)

Could it have been a suburb of a larger town, or perhaps the name of a farm, or a district? ???

cheers

Could it have been Port Grosvenor, or Grosvenor Point, or perhaps, "Grosvenor", the name of a ship?

Cheers

Thank you for your interest. I have since discovered that they were married in Gravesend Kent England. There is a family story that John & Caroline were in Sth Africa at the time of the Boer War and their children were born over there. I have found some of the births in England. Is there a way of checking on English servicemen serving in the first Boer War?

Hello lollyoz

Glad you found out their place of marriage    ;D

Not sure about  service records for English soldiers in the first Boer War, have you thought of contacting the M.O.T.H.S. in South Africa?  they are a great ex-servicemens' organisations and keep excellent archives.    :D

Also you can search on NAAIRS for any of the children that may have been born in South Africa afterall.    8)

Cheers
