Judy, the OP has a tree on Ancestry (been on there this year). Do you have a subs to be able to make contact with her through there?

This is her tree www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/9452949/person/-774500691

Thank you Monica. Have now looked at the tree and it is different to what I would have liked :'(
However have also received a PM and maybe look further into the DNA.

Thank you so much for your help - very much appreciated.

Even if it turns out to be the wrong 'Walter' then that is one that is eliminated from my search so not all negative :)

Best Wishes and Seasons Greetings

Quite excited as have small DNA match with descendant of Walter.  :D Indicative of 4 / 5 generations back.
Early days but need more descendants of Walter who have taken a DNA test to make contact for comparison.

Looking promising  ;) Great news though for now!

Not sure whether it is worthwhile (with covid in mind) asking SP to have a more specific look for his registration? We have his details from the burial register (place, date of death, age and burial date) which help.

Although, as Forfarian has mentioned earlier, there does not seem to be any gaps in the register for deaths in Canonbie. Searching Canonbie and 1897 with no names shows 46 entries. These are made up of 34 entries and an additional 12 entries to take account of married women's deaths (double entries to account for maiden name/married name).

Hi Monica,
I think that is a good idea to ask SP specifically to look. However iI think now would not be a good time with Christmas & Covid so it may be better in the New Year.

I had to Flag up a mistake in the year date on a Baptismal sheet in the Kirk Records on the SP site. They had marked it as '1726' in the index but when you look at the top of the sheet it is '1720'. That makes a lot of difference! But I have not heard back so think it may be better to wait until Scotland is cleared to go back to work.

Have done further looking at the DNA and disappointingly it does not match with anyone else in this families DNA so maybe just a rogue match or the families are so intertwined around that area that it is part of the Gene Bank as it were.

Best Wishes

Hi,
I don't know if you are still searching for the ancestors or your Walter Armstrong c1816 but I am also looking for ancestors/decedents of a Walter Armstrong c1816 Canonbie.

This is the one that I am looking for.
Walter Graham b. 30 Jun 1815. Bap16 Jan 1816 Father's Name: John Graham or ARMSTRONG Mother's Name:   Margaret Telfer Illegitimate

Walter could have taken his fathers name of ARMSTRONG. I have other illegitimate births in Scotland who have done so.

If that is him then his father's mother  ( his Grandmother)was a Janet Graham. Wonder if those Grahams were related to the William Graham that  Walters  daughter Mary  Ima married. May be a  link there? Worth researching?

I agree with the naming pattern BUT I have found an Andrew Wishart in an Anti Nuptial Fornication Index in 1831 (and Mary Little)
Also  in Jan 1832 William  Wishart in Thorniwhats (and Margaret Smith).

If these are related to Isabel who married Walter Armstrong then these could have figured strongly in Isabella's life and she wanted to call a son after them. Including Andrew.

If anyone  is the descendent of Walter has taken a DNA test then please can you PM me as I have taken a DNA test also. I have found many matches to the Armstrong's who I think are this Walter's family so there may be matches to you too.

Fingers crossed.

Best Wishes
Judy
