What did he leave her? (Part 1) COMPLETED, MANY THANKS
« on: Friday 15 May 09 14:42 BST (UK) »
I wonder if you could help me decipher the Will of my many-times great grandfather, please?  I have managed to get quite a bit myself, but if I could feed my queries to you all in bite-sized chunks, I have no doubt that you will be able to make out the writing far better than I.

The first bit where I am stuck is below; I can see he left Susan, his wife, the linens, woollens, and brass; but what else did he leave her?   Any suggestions  would be greatly appreciated.
Suffolk: Pearl(e),  Garnham, Southgate, Blo(o)mfield,Grimwood/Grimwade,Josselyn/Gosling
Durham/Yorkshire: Sedgwick/Sidgwick, Shadforth
Ireland: Davis
Norway: Torreson/Torsen/Torrison

I think the missing word might be occupation --not necessarily with that spelling!.

Isn't that the same thing?  ???

No. If you leave something to someone they can dispose of it how and when they like. If you give someone something for their lifetimes use and then detail who it is to go to after their death then they can not dispose of it at any time at all but must look after it.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
