Immigration to UK
« on: Thursday 21 May 09 18:01 BST (UK) »
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to find info on some relatives who came to England from Ireland between 1850 and 1880. does anyone know if passenger lists were kept for journeys from Ireland to UK and if so then how do i access them. Also are there any records showing migration into UK from that time. I'm unsure if irish citizens were treated as immigrants. I'm also finding irish records hard to find. any help will be appreciated
Thanks

Ireland was part of the U.K. and no passender lists were kept of people traveling between Ireland and Scotland, England or Wales.

I would have thought that some record would have been keep because of the potato famine and the mass exodus of a lot of irish to england.

Irish people were British citizens and they were simply moving from one part of the U.K. to another so no records were needed.

As aghadowey says, the Irish just arrived in England, and it was in huge numbers especially in mid 19th C.
Many settled around Liverpool and Manchester- the census bear testimony to this.
