Hi Manhay
I am having trouble finding Morgan in the 1871 census.  However, it would appear that in 1881 he is in Ystradgynlais with his father:
John Thomas, 39, Coal Miner, b. Breconshire, Aberyskir
Morgan Thomas, 13, Coal Miner, b. Breconshire, Aberyskir
(the village of Aberyscir is adjacent Trallong, which would account for the change here)

In 1891 he appears to be a lodger at 35 Metcalfe Street, Llangynwyd, Maesteg:
MorganThomas, 25, Boarder, Coal Miner, b. Breconshire

and in 1901 at 9 Metcalfe Street, Llangynwyd, Maesteg:
Morgan Thomas, 32, Coal Miner, b. Breconshire, Trallong
Esther Thomas, 26, b. Lancashire, St Helens
John Joseph Thomas, 7, b. Glamorgan, Maesteg
Morgan Thomas, 3, b. Glamorgan, Maesteg
David Charles Thomas, 2, b. Glamorgan, Maesteg
William Thomas, 1 month, b. Glamorgan, Maesteg

Regards,

There is an 1871 entry for Morgan Thomas but  birthplace  is just Breconshire

He was living in Ystradgynlais - parents John M (occ miner)  and Dorothy

How far is Ystradgynlais in relation to Aberyscir / Trallong?

Hi

Thank you so much for the information 9 Metcalfe St Maesteg Glamorgan Wales was where my grandfather Morgan Thomas was born. I do have my grandfathers birth certificate. Now I know what my great grandfathers Morgan Thomas's wife's name was Dorothy I might be able to go a step further. It is very difficult find the information for the Thomas's of South Wales but thank you so much for the information.

Firstly - it was Morgan Thomas's mother who MAY be Dorothy - not his wife

The 1871 entry I found is only a possibility.  Ystradgynlais in relation to Aberyscir / Trallong was about 25/30 miles away so it may not be the same one - see my question and Nanny Jan's answer above

You need a copy of his 1868 birth cert shown above to confirm his mothers name and maiden name

The Morgan I found with parents John & Dorothy is also on the 1881 and John is again shown as John M so there are 2 possibles

It would not be unreasonable for the family to move from Trallong/Aberyscir to Ystradgynlais in the mid-late 1800s because at that time there was an exodus from the Brecon countryside to the valleys, for work in the mining and iron industries.  So don't discount the Ystradgynlais connection.
