Emily Mary TOURY of Jersey
« on: Monday 25 May 09 10:53 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful for any help in obtaining more information relating to Emily Mary TOURY (THOURY) born in St Brelades, Jersey c 1849. She married Thomas Smith BROWN (born c 1842 in England) almost certainly in Jersey and they subsequently moved to Guernsey after the birth of some of their children about 1873/4.

See what you think of this 1851 entry for St Brelades indexed as Loury/Tonry.  All b St Brelades apart from Peter & wife

Peter   68  b France labourer
Margueritte  66  b France
Mary   28  unmarried
Elias Delahaye 16  g/son
Nicolas Delahaye 14  g/son
James Delahaye 12 g/son
Emelia Delahaye 2 g/dtr
HO107 Piece 2529 Folio 301 Page 22

Emelia is the last entry and I wonder if the enumerator has just "dittoed" her as a Delahaye.  Big age difference between James and Emelia

If this is her - she could be the illegitimate daughter of Mary

Hi Selena

There is an index entry for Emelie Marie Toury in St Brelade births, 6th Aug 1842 to 12th Sep 1850 on page 59.

The is a marriage in St Brelade marriages, Jan 1864 to Nov 1879 on page 35 for Thomas Smith Brown. There is an Emily Toury on the same page.

Details on how you can order certificates are at:

http://www.gov.je/HomeAffairs/Registrar/

Certificates are £20 each!!

If you come across the name Jacque Toury, I can see that he went bankrupt around 1832.

Thank you very much, Stewart - very useful info. £20 each seems a bit steep though - perhaps I'll have a few days in Jersey and go to have a look while there! Presumably I can do that?

Yes, in Jersey you can go to the Registry Office and look at the certificates.
