George Grubb a latin deed 1556
« on: Tuesday 26 May 09 00:05 BST (UK) »
Hello
I was wondering whether anybody could tell me what the following means  " Georguis Grubbe est Filius et here pdict Henrici Grubbe et est etatis trigint anno et amplius "

I think it basically says George Grubbe the son and heir of Henry Grubbe is aged 30 or is it saying he is aged more than 30 years.
Thnkyou
Dav.

Hi Dav

I would read it as being aged over 30 years, and that he is heir presumptive rather than just heir.

Cheers

Thanks for that Ashley, I had thought it mean't aged 30 until reread the Document and saw the word " amplius " at the end.
So I guess this must mean he was aged anywhere form 30 to 40 years

Hi Dav

That depends - it is similar to the phrase used on marriage licence allegations where they state the ages of the couple as being over a specific age.  Usually is indicates that they are not the exact age but that was how old they were at their last birthday.  So if the man is above 29 years then on his next birthday he will be 30.

Based on this I would assume that your chap would be 31 on his next birthday.

Thanks very much Ashley, I think you must be right as that makes much more sense.
That helps in clearing up a few other things
Thanks again
