London to Sydney. Can anyone help? CoMPLETED, many thanks
« on: Tuesday 26 May 09 07:18 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,
Hope you've all got the same sunshine that we have this morning-yipee:)
Can anyone help with passenger lists ?
Details are as follows if anyone can:-
James Pratt birth 1907 departure London 1924 to Sydney Australia
Arthur Pratt birth 1910 departure London 1927 to Sydney Australia
Both brothers leave Halifax as soon as they can it would seem!
James was taken prisoner in Malaya in the second world war and died there in1943, I've been so lucky with the Australian archives and have his full service records. I would love to find out more about the two brothers so finding details of their passage to Aus would be great as all I know about are the bare bones birth, death & marriages!.
Thank you for reading.... I'll keep my fingers crossed ;D

Hi,

James sailed fromm London to Sydney 4th Sep 1924 via the Cape.  He was 17, a labourer and lived at 25 Bay Lane Wheatley, Halifax.   The ship was the Borda.

Arthur sailed from London to Sydney 17th Feb 1927.  He was also 17 and a labourer and lived at 22? Bay Lane.... Again the ship was the Borda.

Hope this helps,
Abiam

Thank you sooooooo much ;D
The address will be Boy Lane, Wheatley , the same address that my grandad gave on his marriage cert dated 1926. That's one question answered.... just need to work out why on earth James first decided to go to Aus as I don't know of any other family members who were there... YET!!!
I do know from James service records that he was living at a farm (or house) named Wheatley when he joined the army.. I'm hoping it was a farm that he bought the land to build on and in a moment of either homesickness or affection he named it after the home he had come from- a romantic notion  ;)
Thank you once again, I'll pass the info on to my dad who hasn't been at all well .. it will give him something to mull over ;)
