Dublin Photographers

Does anyone know the name of a Dublin photographer who had studios at 46 Henry Street, c 1906?

Have an original portrait with the name cut off , but address is still decipherable!

Would appreciate assistance.

a bit late for you, but Thoms 1922 shows Graves, photographers (and  jewellers) at no. 36 Henry St -- none at no. 46

and a little earlier in 1894 - number 46 Henry st was a dress maker..

no Photographers listed in Henry St at that time

the building looks to be a private residence split into 3 sections on the 1911 census - none of the professions are photographers. (dress-maker, domestic servant, clerks, french polisher  & commercial trav.) The building return shows that the address is also a shop - but does not indicate which type..

could the photo have been taken in another Henry St ? e.g. Limerick

Hi Palmira,I don't know if this will help but I have a photo
my mother used to say may have been taken in 'the owl studio'
in Mary st which is a short street that continues on as Henry
street.photo dates from around 1908.

Ignore last post, the studio you are looking for
would have been nearer to the o'connell st end
of Henry street.

The name of the photographer has been cut off with a knife and the photo is actually upside down on the backing board so that the address is only partially visible.  On closer examination the "46" could be "16", "18""48" as only the top of the numerals are visible.  Henry Street is quite discernible and the name of the studio is in a typical flowing "curly" script which it is not possible to read as only the top of the capital letter at the beginning and a possible "L" or "H" as 3rd or 4th letter.

Very confusing I know.

Thanks to all who have replied with possible suggestions.

Thom's directory of Dublin for 1949, lists the following :

 44-46 Henry St,
    H. Williams - grocers
    ONO - Beauty Parlour
    Polyfoto - photographers
    Fenlon Kelly & Co.

Aha,well done Shane,I think my mam must have
known that studio from the 40s and assumed the
photo of her parents was taken there but I can see
now by checking the 1911 census that the only 2
Charles Howells did'nt list themselves as photographers
at that time.At least now I know where that studio was
and hopefully palmira's query will be solved soon.
