Best to go to Lombard St and search yourselve.Very straight forward.

If you believe your Whitcroft family was Protestant or Presbyterian, email the Church of Ireland site,re childs Baptism record.
I happen to know that protestants in the Cork city garrison used the Parish of St Annes,Shandon.

I did not get any info much from Cork Library for the period I was looking for,but you may be lucky.

Good luck,
Brionne.

I have now found out that Bridget Whitcroft died and was buried on 27th September 1869 in Lucknow. Her name is in the Register of All Saints Church, Lucknow. Is there anyone in the area who would look for her grave for me?

Hello Brionne and Cupoflife,

Thank you both for replying.

I have been looking for Bridget since 2001. She and I share the same birth date (not the same year I hasten to add) and I feel for her so much, being whisked away across the world and then not knowing what had happened to her.

I had planned to go to The British Library, but it would have been quite a journey and I never made it.
Then Find My Past  put records online from the TBL, so I put her name in and there she  was!!
the record says she was the wife of Colour Sergeant W Whitcroft, 62nd Reg. so it is definitely her.
It would be great to find out where she is buried but I realise it is asking a lot.

All I have to do know is find out when and where her daughter Lillie was born in Cork!

Thank you again for your time and help.

Looks as if All Saints Church was actually the large red All Saints Garrison Church, Lucknow.
There are numerous pictures of this on line,if you Google.
Sadly may be closed, there was a small congregation in 2012,but a more recent post shows its now shut.Roots Webb India has a discussion going on churches, might be worth a try.
Or,find out the name and address of the Anglican Church Office in India.

Hello Brionne and Doran54,

Thank you for your posts. I have looked at the photos of  the church and it  obviously  looks as if it is shut. I really think that my only chance of finding Bridget's grave is for someone local to Lucknow, to look for me. I also wonder if her grave would be marked, as she died as a soldier's wife and at a time  after the mutiny.
Her husband William Whitcroft (born 1844) was a colour Sergeant and doing well in the 62nd  (Wiltshire Regiment) but in 1870 he was demoted to private, but the army can't tell me why! I assume he must have hit an Officer or something equally serious. His life must have been hard without his wife and with a two year old daughter but still out in Lucknow.

Thank you both again for your time and interest.
