1881  RG11; Piece: 5470; Folio: 11; Page: 16
William and Jane are living in Broad Street Hay with daughters Jane 11 yrs; Ailic8 yrs and Margaret 6 yrs.
I thought that Ailic may be Alice but when you look at it - it could be Ann/e  ???

I was looking at something yesterday (Beavan)  connected to Clyro but can't find it now and remember thinking that I wouldn't mention it because we would be wandering off somewhere else  ::)

Was it this?

Inquisition report on the death of Ann Beavan, Clyro (clothes caught fire) 4 Jan 1876

Death registration is for someone aged 73.

You did have to register a birth in the district it occurred in, but it seems that Annie was living in London at the time.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/acts/1874Act.htm
 - number 6 probably applies here.  She had her baby in Lechlade and then returned to Kensington. In order to register the birth she had to go to her local registrar, make a declaration and pay her fee. The Kensington registrar would have then forwarded the information to Faringdon who would record the birth in their books.

A good idea might be to look for the death and will of William Beaven who lived at Stock's House.  He may have died in Hay district in 1912, aged "75" but ages at death are often off a bit.

About locating wills:

For the 1881 census, you need to go into the 1881 Wales census on Ancestry, they have the English and Welsh censuses separate.  When you're there, there will be boxes to put in the Piece, Folio, and page numbers at the bottom of the form. If you do that and don't put any names in,  you should see the family come up.

You can also put the reference in the standard form here

Ignore the RG number and just insert  the values from the reference (Piece: 5470; Folio: 11; Page: 16) ie 5470 11 16 and search. Is some circumstances you get duplicates over years, but in this case it just pulls up the 1881 Wales census.

Hi Deryck,
no it was just the censuses. I think there was a single young woman in Hay born Clyro and I think I was just exploring- wondering if she could be the mother of Annie Maria.

Sorry Julie,
I think it has been explained to you now and hope you found it.
It is a strong coincidence that they Beavans were at that address in 1901 but nothing is proven yet. Fingers crossed (and everything else) that we are getting a bit closer.  ;)

1901 Annie Beavan is with her father Edwin, a tailor, in Hereford.

So one less to worry about :)
