There are a couple of possible deaths for Ellen - one in 1895 Wolstanton district and another 1891 Leek district.

Similarly there is a death for Edward 1899 Lichfield born 1860, that's the nearest I can get.

I would suspect that deaths would be a reason for her to head off to places unknown and make a new life for herself.

Thank you Mary, for that information, I am not sure that is my Jane Jackson/Green.
William, Edwards brother, married a Jane Franks, the same age, also Wednesbury
is not her place of birth, Burslem, or Hanley, therefore there are two Jane Greens both aged 21 in 1891, not sure if Hanley and Burslem are the same
district.

Edward was born in 1864 from memory, does not agree with the 1899 death.

I think Jane had another daughter Martha born 1892, found an Edward
Green, born Hanley, Staffs, with Martha age 9  on 1901 census. (lodging).

Janes place of birth on the 1911 census is Hanley, Staffordshire, and she
is not widowed but married for 25 years, her age is wrong, 44 making dob 1867, probably to cover the age difference a little.

Quite a few puzzles, I do agree that Ellen died in 1895 aged 4, there is also a death for Martha in 1892, I am hoping that this is not the same one, so many names the same it is hard to fathom who is who.

William and Jane Green have a number of children and are on the 1901 census.
perhaps Ellen was their daughter.

Goodnight, Mary, Billy and spidermonkey.

Norma.

I think the only way you will move forward going backwards as it were, is with the marriage certificate of Jane to Edward Green.

You either need to order the certificate from the GRO - you can do this online using the following reference
Q4 1887 Wolstanton 6b 176, or alternatively request a look up in the Parish Register, but I would suggest you do this on the Staffordshire board.

This will give you his father's name and then you will be sure.  Additional bonus will be the witnesses names.

Mary,

I have the marriage certificate of Jane and Edward Green, Oct, 1887,
her father is stated as William Jackson, Potter, and Edwards father is
Herbert Green, Potter.

Janes age is given as 18, she would have been 17, and it is hard to decipher
Edwards age, but looks like 24.

One of the witnesses is Minnie Etta Jackson, I believe her younger sister,
although she would have been only about 16, and William .....something rose
as in Penrose, unreadale, can't connect that name.

They married at Cobridge Church, parish of Burlsem, Stoke on Trent, fits with
the memory of her being born in the Potteries, both she and Edward Green are
listed as Potters.

There is also a death for an infant Edward Green the year after 1888, which
makes me think she may have been pregnant at that age.

I am hoping that if Martha b. 1892 is her child, that she survived, in the late
1950's my Mum received a letter from Canada from a lady claiming to be her
half sister, didn't seem too interested, but I was about 12 at the time, corresponded with her for a while, exchanged photo's etc., and then lost
touch, the only thing I remember is that they lived in Ontario, a very vague
recollection of her name being Martha, of course she was married with children and grandchildren herself then.

Thanks for your interest, and help, much appreciated, morning from Aus

Regards
Norma.

Although it doesn't help finding her later, it does confirm that the Greens are the correct family at least.

I hope your memory of Martha is of the correct person, possibly some of her descendants would be interested in their family history and be searching for you/any others here in England.  Have you tried GenesReunited? definitely to search for any dates of your ancestors, but if you upload your tree then it's there for other searchers to find.

Good luck
Mary

Hi Norma,

Have you put your tree on Ancestry?  If not, there is someone who shares your family!  I came across it whilst searching for George Vincent Rooney.  If it isn't you, and you would like contact details, let me know and I'll pass them along to you.

Thank you, I have access to Ancestry, through a friend,  the
Clift family tree, my nephew is Warwick James Clift.

So hopefully now it has been updated I will receive some matches
through Janes sisters, I have been fortunate enough to find a relative in Aust.
in the past few days, her gggrandfather and mine William Jackson are brothers.

Thank goodness for the internet, amazing how we are both in Aust.

Thanks again for all your help.

Norma.
