Hi everybody,
I'm trying to search my husbands scottish family tree for him from Australia ??? :)
I have been given some details
Great grandfather William Dugald Colquhoun b 14 april 1843 and married Elizabeth McKinlay b 14 October 1947
They had 7 kidz but 4 died in a shipping accident Earl Wemyss 1888.
I have lineage of survivors William (eldest dob 11/3/1874) & youngest Peter Wemyss (dob 25/10/1884).  but we don't have anything on the other survivor Marion Colquhoun born at sea aboard Earl Derby Lat 30 south Long 30 West april 30 1881.
Does anybody know anything about Marion or great grandfathers details.
thanks

Hi roybie 1964, welcome to rootschat.

Do you have a birthplace for Wm Colquhoun? Some idea of this is needed to help find his details...

I assume  Elizabeth's birth date is 14 Oct 1847... easy enough to make a typo but rather significant in this context ::) ;D

whoops sorry yes 1800's is definately the period.

I don't know William Dugald Colquhoun's or Elizabeth McKinlay's birth places.
They were married in Helensburgh and 3 of their children where born in Helensburgh which is near Luss, Loch Lomond district.
My husband's grandfather is Peter Wemyss (youngest) and he has met another Colquhoun whose grandfather is William (eldest) but nobody knows anything about Marion.  Because she was born at sea where would she have her birth registered?
ggf William dugald died in Glasgow 29 March 1893.  If that is any help?

Hi Roybie 1964. I don't know if this will be of any help but here goes:

William Colquhoun married Marion McLachlan 21 Oct 1837, Row, Dunbarton.  Their family:

Peter b. 23 Jun 1840
William Dugald McLachlan  b. 14 Apr 1843, Row, Dunbarton
Elizabeth b. 18 Apr 1847

William Dugald McLachlan  m. 3 Jun 1873, Row, Dunbarton, Elizabeth McKinlay.  Their family:

William b. 11 Mar 1874
Marion b. 30 Apr 1881
Peter b. 25 Oct 1884

Marion's birth is registered in the Minor Records section of Scotlands People.

you are wonderful that is great.  Just wish there weren't so many williams in the family tree as my head is spinning with them..especially as this is the first geneology I have ever done.

The 3 kids you mentioned are the survivors exactly.  How do I go about tracing Marion from here?

Hi again.  In an attempt to discover if Marion ever married I searched the index of ScotlandsPeople and found the marriages of 3 Marion Colquhouns between 1901 and 1905:

1901 Kinning Park, Glasgow
1902 Rhu, Dunbarton
1905 Kelvin, Glasgow

There is no guarantee but the 1902 one looks likely.
