Marriage of Ellen Mary Brown @ 1920 possibly Croydon
« on: Thursday 04 June 09 10:13 BST (UK) »
I am unable to find a marriage for Ellen Mary Brown, born in Walthamstow in 1897.  I know she lived in Morden during WW2 and was married with a possibly still living daughter who was in the Wrens during the war.   I am guessing she married somewhere around Morden.  Her father was called Thomas Brown and her mother was Jane Elizabeth (maiden name was Stannard).  I am descended from one of Ellen's brothers, but we no nothing about her.  I would like to follow the family tree down that line, but obviously need a married name before I can go any further.  Any help is very much appreciated.  Thank you.

Are you sure that she married in Surrey. The family seemed to be in West Ham in 1901 and 1911.

There is a marriage of Brown Ellen M with Alfred J Boreham  Romford 4a 1082

Dec Q 1922

Hi, If the daughter was in the WRENS would her army records show her next of kin?   Would that be any help?

Hi, thank you Geoff and Charlotte. Thank you both for your input. My concern about where the marriage would have taken place is that on the 1911 Census Ellen Mary was not there and as I don't know where she was, I thought she may have been in the Croydon area to have lived there during the War. Also, would I have found Wren records on the army site, as that was Navy? Again, I would need the married name to look that up anyway. It is possible that the marriage you found could be correct. I suppose I would have to get the certificate to find out for sure.  :-\ Sally
