This is an image from the Muster book of HMS Royal Alfred which at the time was based between Halifax and the West Indies. Would you transfer from the Royal Navy to the Merchant Navy?

When you say "based between Halifax and the West Indes" do you mean it was trading between those places?

I believe it was the Flagship of the North American station. I've put a bit more about my enquiry in the armed forces section under 'William Jerome - Where do I go from here?' But basically I'm trying to prove (or disprove) an old family rumour.

I think it's RMV and all I found when surfing was mention of Royal Marines and Royal Marine Volunteers (Volunteer Reserves).   Therefore I think Halifax was the ship.

P.S. Have just seen mention of America which puts my thoughts about Halifax into doubt.  ???

The form looks like Royal, not Merchant Navy and so RMS would not apply, as it means Royal Mail Steamer.  If this is the last entry on the sheet, it is very likely to read 'run', or deserted, the term used by the Royal Navy from way back.

Ok, finally got this solved, so thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It does say 'Run', if I had carried on to the back of the book, like I did today  :-[ there is a list of people who had deserted which includes my ancestor, naughty boy!  :)
