Hi Red

I think it says "Knight of Aughter--------"

What are the words after "Aughter------" ?

What year was this record - might help with identifying language forms etc?

Cheers

Hi Ambly,

thanks for replying.

The marriage took place March 1816. It has the words Fodderty printed at the top of the page. I presume this is where the marriage took place  ???  I know they came from Inverness.

I wonder if it is meant to be a form of Aughterarder (Auchterader) in Perthshire?

Please excuse my Scottish geography, but is that far from Inverness?

Hi

I knew your McLennans would not rest, Red  ;D ;D ;D

The marriage was in Fodderty, Ross and Cromarty. Fodderty is not far from Inverness. I think we followed the family around and around there.

I think it reads John MacLennan, Heights, ploughman, so this would probably mean the Heights of Fodderty.
