Hi Sarah

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Could you give an idea of dates of birth?  Do you have them on any census, and do you have their marriage certificate showing their fathers' names and occupations?  Are you wanting census lookups, or parish records, and what do you already know about them?

The more you can tell us, the easier it should be to help, and if we know what information you already have, it saves us looking for things you don't need!

Kind regards
Barbara

Hi Sarah,

Best to start with what you know and work back  :)
Your Dad's birth cert should give you his mother's maiden name and then you could find his parents' marriage.  Do you know if they married in Scotland or England, have you looked on Cheshirebmd?

Is this your grandad's death registration?
Dec Qu Birkenhead 10a 15  Joseph McBride  aged 61

So born c1889, will have a look for your grandmother's reg.

Hi Sarah
I done a general search of 1901 census
there are only two Joseph McBride's showing
but when put Margaret's name as second person there are none
but there is one with the name shortened to Maggie
maybe you could ask someone to have a look it would at least
give you the area of Greenock to start looking
and possible dates of birth
sorry I dont have any credits at the minute or I would have a look for you
Elaine
Added;
there are none in the Port Glasgow area

They wouldn't have married until after 1901 census, if Joseph was born 1889, so we won't find them together in that census  :)

Have you had a look in the 1911 census for them? He would have been about 22, so may have been married by then

Barbara
there is one Joseph McBride born Port Glasgow 1889
I realised after I posted the 1901 census that they probably weren't
married by then :) checked it again and there is only one Joseph between the
age of 1- 20
There are also three Joseph's born Greenock between 1880 and 1900

Hi Sarah & Elaine,

I've checked the marriages on scotlandspeople (free index) and there's only one for a Joseph McBride and a Margaret in Greenock between 1910-1933, I narrowed that down to 1928-1933

Trouble is, that's just guesswork until the maiden name is known, so Sarah will have to wait for her Dad's birth cert, and then take out a few credits for scotlandspeople - (I haven't any left either!)

Barbara  :)
