George and Sarah married in Keiss, Wick Landward on May 16 1862

George was a farm servant, aged 21 and living in Olrig (possibly Scrabster or Stemster). His parents were James Banks, farm servant (deceased) and Christina, maiden surname Sutherland

Sarah was a farm servant, aged 26 and living in Keiss, Wick. Her parents were Donald Bremner, farmer and Janet, maiden surname <what looks like> Wheir.

So Daniel/Donald was named after Sarah's father :)

Freereg www.freereg.org.uk also has good coverage of Caithness but George's baptism isnt there - just the one with mother Elizabeth Campbell and no marriage showing for James Banks and Christian/Christina Sutherland.

It does say that it's not 100% complete.

Gadget dont want to push my luck but if you get the chance my grandfather also on my mothers side was John Fletcher born Corstorphine strangely enough and his dad was called George but have no further info there. I think John was born around 1885. Im working on my dads side which was in Staffs along with the very helpful guys on that message board also

This is the nearest that I can get to George in the 1851. The others don't fit age/father's occupation:

Newlands, Latheron
38 ED 1 Page 4
Sutherland
John, 36, fisher, b. Latheron
Grizela, sister, 47, ag lab, b. Latheron
Amelia, sister, 34, ag lab, b. Latheron
Isabella, sister, 32, ag lab, b. Latheron
Banks
Margaret, niece, 15, b. Wick
Ann, niece, 13, b. Latheron
George, nephew, 10, b. Latheron
James, nephew, 8, b. Latheron

Can you give me more details of John Fletcher - age/DoB (I see 1885 ish) , who married, etc.

Hi Gadget. John married my grandmother Annie Banks in Grangemouth probably around 1915 as my mother was born 1921. So this is just a guess. I also know he was born I guess in the 1880s at a place called the Lodge in Corstorphine Edinburgh

1841:

Strath, Watten
42 Ed 2 p 8

Banks
James ag lab. b. Scotland
Christina,35
Margaret, 5
Ann, 4
George, 9 months
Janet Smith, 60

all but James b. Caithness

Note that in the 1841 census ages were grouped into 5 year age bands so the 35 would be 35-39, etc.

I don't see a marriage of an Ann(ie) Banks (variations) to a Fletcher at the moment.

I'll have a better look later but I have to go now. Maybe someone else can help as well.
