I still prefer the other joseph - but really you need to purchase marriage cert which will give father's name and occupation

I am wondering about 1911 census Ann age 80 b Pembroke -is she Ann Thomas and yet described as Mother in law???

Hi Suz,

Have just dug out the marriage certificate for Dora THOMAS she married in October 1911 aged 17.

If I'd looked at this first I could have saved some of my credits on 1911 by using the advance search inserting their addresses - have just tried this and it came up with all the names in household and they match  :-[

Anyway, it looks as if Dora's brother is called DANIEL as he is one of the witnesses to her marriage along with her husband's sister Mary A FRANCIS whom I thought had married before 1911 as she was not with the family in 1911  :-\

As Joseph & Sarah Ann married for 24 years that gives a marriage date in 1887  :-\

On BMD tried Joseph THOMAS Sarah Ann THOMAS no match only entry for Bridgend is Dec 1885 Joseph THOMAS Sarah Ann WILLIAMS a possibility as son William b1887.

Thought Sarah Ann was a THOMAS as Ann THOMAS 80 written as the mother-in-law - if marriage entry is correct it looks as if she's Joseph's mother and Sarah's m-i-l  :-\

I've now possibly got a Sarah Ann Williams b1865 Glamorgan & family to look for on censuses  :)

Hi Suzard,

Having looked at all the great info. you have sent me on the THOMAS family - I think I'm in agreement with you that John & Ann look possible candidates for Joseph's parents.

As Ann was widowed on 1871 census there are two possible marriage entries  for Ann Thomas/David Rees on BMD
Dec 1875 Bridgend
Mar 1879 Bridgend
both of these would tie in with the 1881c entry for David & Ann Rees with stepsons Joseph & William Thomas.

Checked 1881c for the other children named on 1871c and found

Susannah Thomas servant/nurse age 16 Maesteg RG11 5276 /74/51
John Thomas head age 23 coal miner RG11 5327/ 19/31
2 possible entries for
David Thomas head age 30 Maesteg iron miner RG11/5327/13/20 & age 30 Maesteg coal miner RG11/5327/36/2

As for Joseph's wife Sarah Ann b1865 Glamorgan if her surname is WILLIAMS possible entry 1881 RG11/5327/26/45 Sarah Ann Williams age 16 Maesteg, Mary Catherine 12, Robert Thomas 10 with parents Edward & Mary Williams.

Thanks for your time & effort - very much appreciated

Ladyhawk  :)
