George Luttrell ARMSTRONG help please!!
« on: Thursday 11 June 09 11:31 BST (UK) »
I am  researching George Luttrell Armstrong  l born 1805c Ireland by  several English Cenus, unfortunately no country is recorded.

He died in 1889 in West Derby Lancashire and he was a mathematices teacher.

His wifes name was Mary Ann  but no idea of married name and also says she was born in Ireland as well.  I  do not know if they married in England or Ireland  ???

Can anoyne point me in  the right place to start looking.

His son John Barry Armstrong  who was born 1838c in Lancashire emmigrated to Australia.

thanks Jenn

since George and Mary were born before Civil Registration (1864) it's going to be difficult to start a search without knowing a location..

To start a search of parish details you need to try to find out religion and parish to check if any records survive.

A taxation survey of the 1850s called Griffith valuation will shows details from that time and help to locate area where the family may have lived. The surname seems quite widely distributed

top 10 counties with  Armstrong households  :

1.      Fermanagh      416
2.      Antrim      199
3.      Tyrone      121
4.      Monaghan      115
5.      Armagh      91
6.      Cavan      90
7.      Dublin      86
8.      Down      82
9.      Leitrim      69
10.      Sligo      69

I wonder if George's middle name came from his mother's side

distribution of Luttrell :

1.      Laois      12
2.      Kilkenny      6
3.      Kildare      2
4.      Dublin      1
