There was a Private James Merritt, 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles killed in action. Born in Westport. Enlisted in ballinasloe while living in Westport. Number 5264.

Thanks for your information on James Merritt, I will pass it on the my friend in England, but I do not think it is him, as the one I am looking for died sometime after the war in his middle forties, he could be a relative though, so will pass it on, again many thanks.

Sorry for posting on this thread, but I found it while researching Isabella Hutchinson.  As the original poster has not posted in a long time I fear he may have passed away, but maybe his family or his friend from England might come across this thread.

Please message me if you know anything about the descendants of Ernest Merritt and Isobella Hutchinson.
