ok.....

Millicent may wood was the daughter of John Richard and Mary Ellen (we think formerly smith)
According to mum there was loads of siblings
Ruby, Ivy, Henry, stanley, Gladys, Geoffrey and Ken.
The oldest being either Ruby (sounds too modern to me ??? )
and Henry
We don't know where John richard Hails from but... Mary Ellen was from Tupton. Hope this helps
Betton

marriage Sep 1907  Chesterfield    7b   1614
SMITH    Mary Ellen   and on same page   WOOD    John Richard

1911 index shows a John Rch WOOD b.1880 with a Mary Ellen WOOD b. 1883 she was born Tupton, a Stanley 1908 and Gladys Eva 1910 so you may like to look at the full image
I couldn't see a Ruby - that's not a modern name, by the way!

Will have a look for the parents in 1901

Good Morning!
ok.. the story so far  ;D
John richard wood Married Mary Ellen Smith....

John Richard was the son of Walter Wood and Ann - i have found them on the 1901 Census Living at Shortland, Belper.
Walter was born c.1854 in Horseley Derbyshire, his wife ann his wife in 1851 Belper - they had7 children on this census ranging from william born Belper 1876 to Arthur born 1900 in belper.
not looked for him in 1911 yet - i'm really hoping no more children!

Mary Ellen Smith's Parents were Francis Smith (aka Frank) and millicent Formerly MUSSON
i have managed to find them in 1901 living in Barracks row, Ashover, Derbyshire
Frank was born in 1862 in Walton Derbyshire , his occupation was a stonemason and his wife was Millicent and she was born in Mansfield 1864

"Maryellin" aged 17 born in Tupton, Their next child was maned as "Greshom" - what a great name!(i would love to find somthing about him! he was born1885 in Tupton there was also George henry (1890Tupton) Frank (1898 Ashover) Ann (1894 Ashover) and little Edward (1900 Asover) - not anything more on them yet

i have census details noe for Frederick Clayton in 1911 - 1901 - 1891 - 1881 to make the full set
but need to get my ship in order for his wife
Will keep looking
thanks for everything
Sonja

Hi Sonja,

Well done!  You seem to have almost got your family history sorted in just a few days  ;D

Greshom?  1911 index lists him as GERSHOM
He's listed twice in the GRO birth index as Gershom so maybe when it was originally transcribed they couldn't read the page number

birth reg: March Qu 1885  Chesterfield    7b   718 or 708
 SMITH    Gershom

1891 census RG12 Piece 2757 Folio 24 Page 11

Marriage registration
Mar 1912 Chesterfield  7b  934
PLANT  Sarah A  to  SMITH Gersham

If you enter births, & Smith and Plant surnames and Chesterfield on freebmd
it comes up with 12 children, but they may not all be to your couple, could be another Smith/Plant marriage in the area  :)
