I have been away for a long time and just getting back into research. Was trying to find James Elliott (Eliot) who was a police constable. I did not get the opportunity to communicate with Barnaby who seemed to be a real whiz at the police records. An old message refers to MEPO 7 but I am not sure what this refers to.   James Elliott was married in Ireland 1861 (not sure if he was born in UK or Ireland) and then went to UK sometime between 1861 - 1863 and then came to Australia 1867 and continued to be a policeman.

I am a novice at this research and have found difficulties looking for police records in either UK or Ireland, any assistance would be appreciated as I am not sure where to start or how. Thanks Alison

Hi howe02,

Your first port of call should be all of the links on the very first page of this thread. These link to all of the amazing things Barnaby has done for us.

Penny, I am related to John Jacob as well, he was my GGG Grandfather.  His son Francis is my Great Great Grandfather, and his son Robert Driesen is my Great Grandfather. His son, John Driesen, was my Grandfather, and emigrated to Australia after WW2.  He had met my Nan in Australia when serving with the British army, and then returned to Aus once his service was finished and they were married. Their only child was my Mum, Louise Elizabeth Driesen.

Hi Georgina,  Great to hear from you - I live in New Zealand.   My Link to your Robert Driesen is very remote. Legacy says he is my greatuncle's wife's 2nd cousin ( work that out !)  Francis Driesen (1797) was married to an Ellen Colophy. One of their daughters was Mary Ann, who married a William Walters.  One of their daughters was Lucinda Elinor Walters, who married my greatuncle Reginald Edward Mills.  If you are interested you can contact me at (*).   The only information I have on John Jacob's parents is he was born in Germany c 1797 and died c1868 - his wife was Elizabeth Keehner born c 1796 in Germany. She died 3 Nov 1850 and is buried 11 Nove1850 at Wycliffe congrecational church.

Thanks so much! great to hear from you. Wow, what a connection, but still great to have. If I dig anything out about the German aspect of the family, i will pass it on.
