Queensland Marriage Certificate

Can anyone tell me up to what year you can obtain a marriage certificate that is not your own. Would 1945 be exempt? This year would not be classified as historical?   LORC

This information if from  the Qld. Justice Departments website

"Historical certificates
 
The registry's historical records are unrestricted. Identification is not required and anyone may apply for certificates of these events.
Births that were registered more than 100 years ago, marriages registered more than 80 years ago, and deaths registered more than 50 years ago are classified as being historical records."

So  looks like  you  cannot obtain  a  marriage certificate  that isn't your own, unless you  have written consent from  the person whose certificate it is and means of  idenification from that person as well as your own.

Thank you for that information. I see you have listed Townsend as an ancestor. Although I am not actually related, there is some info. on my website www.radleysofcork.bigpondhosting.com  BALDWINs married into Townsend and also my gt gt aunt married a Townsend.  Thanks again.  Lorraine

I noticed the following announcement on the Qld bdm website.

Certificate access

Historical access provisions for death and marriage certificates have changed, effective 1 March 2009.

These are now:

    * deaths - open access after 30 years
    * marriages - open access after 75 years.

Our records contain sensitive and personal information about you and your family. To protect your records, we will only release certificates or information of certificates to people permitted under our certificate access policy.

The registry has recently updated the certificate access policy. Before submitting your application to obtain a certificate or information refer to the certificate access policy to confirm your eligibility.

Before we issue any certificate, extract or search, you must establish your reason for requesting the document and proof of identity.

The change doesn't help you with access to a marriage cert in 1945 but may help others who would like access to the certs in the period 1929 - 1934.

thanks for that, my  mob came from Wiltshire and don't seem  to  have ventured very far afield from  there, except to Australia and Wales!!!!!!

It would appear so - info here. In addition if either party of the marriage is still living I think that would also prevent you purchasing a cert.
