This is a very old thread but I thought I should say something about Poplar Cottage, Redgorton, Perthshire, mentioned earlier.  My Alice's great grandfather lived there briefly, according to the 1881 Scottish Census, looked after by his half-sister, probably while his ship's master father was away at sea.  The following link is to Poplar Cottage, 11 Margaret Street, Redgorton, Perthshire, which I think is probably the same place.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Poplar+Cottage,+11+Margaret+St,+Stanley,+Perth+PH1+4PA/@56.4842718,-3.4545387,15.79z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x48863d3dbb1a6981:0x38dc19bc562006e1!8m2!3d56.4837193!4d-3.4531371

Drag the orange pegman in the lower right corner to the red pushpin, and you will see the cottage, next to the small house with the parking cone in the entrance.  It is marked '11 Poplar Cottage', where Margaret Street becomes Manse Crescent.  The photos have been badly stitched, as there appears to be a distorted street light coming out of the roof.

We would welcome any further knowledge.
