MISSEN - Tim Whiffler 1874
« on: Monday 15 June 09 16:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,
A member of my family, Emanuel Missen, his wife Rebecca and their children James (6), Matilda (4) and Sarah (3) sailed on the Tim Whiffler to Maryborough, Queensland, Australia in 1874

All I want to know is if they made it there alive, I understand alot of people died on the long journey and was hoping he and his family wasnt included in the death toll

Many Thanks
Norfolk - Riches, Harvey, Mudd
Devon - Grant
Cambridge - Missen
Carmarthenshire/Cardiganshire, Wales - Jones
Somerset/Surrey - Perry

looks like they did arrive safely to Qld:
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/downloads/Indexes/immigration/Metcalf_L-Moor.pdf

but didn't stay there.
this family isn't recorded on the QLD BDM site:
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m

there is a birth in NSW for an Ada at Gundagai, Rebecca, Emanuels'  and other family births ,deaths and marriages  being recorded in NSW.

Emanuel and Rebecca died at Bundarra NSW
http://www.bundarra.com/

Unfortunately Emanuel, who died in 1919 didn't enrol to vote.  Was hoping to find his occupation.

Lots of information on death certificates in NSW and a cheaper and quicker option to a certificate is a transcription.

they are listed on:
http://cemindex.arkangles.com/inscriptions.php
but unfortunately no headstone photo is on the site.
The Anglican Section doesn't appear to have been photographed

Leanne I think this may help explain

The original list of inscriptions at Bundarra General Cemetery was kindly contributed by Beverle MacLeod. It was based upon a transcription of the cemetery compiled in 1954 by Catherine Keogh and Errol J. Lea-Scarlett. It was of particular interest because it presented a snapshot of the cemetery taken over 50 years ago.

More recently, Caroline Foster has contributed her list of inscriptions she compiled several years ago and her list has been merged with the one described above. It is apparent that, in the interim, several of the earlier markers have disappeared.

Caroline has also contributed several images she has taken in the cemetery. It is hoped that we will be able to photograph the entire cemetery in the not too distant future.

I certainly agree with your comments Leanne....volunteers are invaluable....especially in the genealogy world ;D  Many hours of work to photograph graves and then to identify and index.

The Armidale Family History Group have a publication with lists 1300 pioneers of the district.

I wonder if the group would do a lookup to see if the MISSEN family are listed?  There is an email address on their website.
