Where is this address?
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 13:13 BST (UK) »
Can any one tell me where these address's were/are ? They are taken from the 1911 census for Galway. I would also like to know if they still exist ?
Migky ;)

Residents of house number 6 in Newtown (Galway South Urban, Galway)

Residents of house number 37 in Oranhill (Clarinbridge, Galway)

Can't help with location of the addresses but the 'house number' you've listed might refer to the number on the census form rather than the actual street number of that particular house. If you check the 1911 census nd look at the entry for Batholomew [their spelling] Martin it says 37 but under the listings of scnned images there's 'additional pages 2' under 'Household Return (form A)' and this shows that there was no street number- Oranhill is probably the townland name not a street name and I'm not sure what the road would be called now.

I'd say this is the Oranhill referred to - its near to Clarinbridge, and Oranmore and about 11km east of Galway city

Google map : http://www.rootschat.com/links/06i1/

there are a few Newtown's around but the DED of 'Galway South Urban' would suggest somewhere in the city area..

I have just found the family that was living on "NEWTOWN " 1911 on the 1901 living at  Abbeygate Street Lower. Parish of ST. Nicholas.
If you look on this Google map it shows where "Abbeygate Street Lower" is and right next to it is "NEWTOWN SMITH" I think this might be my newton i was trying to find? Thanks you both for your help.
