William Glen b: 1855 Mochrum
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 18:14 BST (UK) »
Hello, wonder if anyone can help with death details for the above.

William was the son of Patrick Glen, he married Emma Kate Rowe in Redruth (26/12/1877), they appear in the 1881 Census of Wales in St Woollos, Mounmouthshire.

They had three children in Wimbledon, Lee May (1882), Charles Stuart (1884) and Alfred Melvelle (1886).

Emma Kate appears in the 1891 and 1901 census, back living in Cornwall with in-laws and the three children, but no trace of William.

There have been some spelling errors along this research, Glen, Glenn and Glene, but I have checked all options and still no trace of William's death.

Any help will be much appreciatted !

Hello

In all of Scotland from 1880 to 1955 there is only 1 William Glen death
(born 1855)

1 1904 GLEN WILLIAM     M 49 DENNISTOUN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/03 2134

Have tried the other variants and there are no records.

I don't know if this is your own website, or someone else researching the same line, but there is a lot of detail with sources cited.

Have you tried viewing the death certificates for his wife and siblings? It would appear that at least one other brother moved to Redruth around the same time. If he registed any other deaths it would give you a better idea of time frame, also if his wife was a widow or not when she died.

Is Emma Kate listed as a widow in any census records that you have for her?

Emma Kate shows as married up to 1901. Timper, have you checked the 1911 census to see what it says about her marital status?

Thanks all for your comments.

Piglet01 wrong William Glen, parents do not tie up. Pity !

KirstyG Yes, that is my info I posted it on the Multiply Redruth Families group when I was helping someone on there. Not a bad idea to track down Emma's DC, it would at least give a better time frame if it does say widow.

MonicaLesl Emma appears in the 1901 census living with her brother and her three children, showing as married, in 1911 she is on her own, with two of the children, but no William. Interestingly most (all ?) 1911 census returns I have looked at show "how long married" this one doesn't.

It could be that the marriage had broken down and William had just cleared off. There is a William Glen (1855'ish) in the Helston Workhouse in 1901/1911. In one of the returns it just says PoB Scotland, the other Stirling, which is a good way from where my William was born.

I did see the William Glen in the Helston Workhouse. He is actually there from the 1891 census, showing as single in both 1891/1901.

Certainly looks like William may have deserted the family some time after the birth of youngest  :-\
