To marry Cousins in the 1800 you had to have a
special dispensation from the bishop.

I found this out by looking for a marriage.

I hasten to add that this was not my relative !!

But My Great Great Grandfather married two sisters
(one had died) and I think that was illegal at the
time.  You can legally now.

Hiya Jinks

My GGrandad got one sister pregnant (I haven't found a marrige certificate yet) then married another sister when she died leaving their son to be brought up by his grandparents. Though he is listed as a widow on the second sisters marriage certificate

In Scotland the prohibited relationships were defined by blood relationships therefore marrying the sister of your dead wife was perfectly legal ...... and still legal as one of my rellys did to marry their cousin when wife no 2 didn't survive.

Re the articles .... thought provoking but a gross oversimplification which resulted in leaps of "faith" to accept his arguments plus I think his basics maths were wrong  ;D .... that said I think his basic theory is pretty close but it just doesn't hit true for me  ::)
